It is early morning on a summer’s day. As you roll out on your bike the sun is painting the aspen forest with golden light and the air is fresh. It’s silent apart from the sounds of your tires rolling over the pavement, the air rushing past your ears, and the steady rhythm of your breath. Following the lakeshore trail a pair of Loons call in the distance. This might just be the most beautiful place you ever ride your bike.

Riding Mountain National Park features some of Manitoba’s (and arguably Canada’s) most scenic roads and trails. Two wheels are the perfect way to explore, whether you want to take the family for a lakeside spin, tackle grueling road climbs, or enjoy the thrill of a tree-lined downhill trail. There are many options, both on road and off road, for cyclists of all ages and abilities.

The road and mountain biking season typically runs from May through to October, Fat biking is a fun option when snow is covering the trails and roads.  Whatever the season, weather in the backcountry is unpredictable so make sure you are prepared with a repair kit, tools and waterproof, warm layers. Floating across the snow on a bike through a silent, snow-laden forest is a beautiful experience.  Fat biking is a must-try winter sport. With massive tires giving surprising traction on snow, fat bikes allow two-wheeled exploration even when it’s white out. Take a spin around town or venture off-road. It’s a great way to enjoy fresh air and exercise on even the coldest of days.
