Wander along the shore of Clear Lake, trek the rough terrain of the escarpment, be amazed by the golden colours of the aspens in the fall. With a little effort and a dose of adventurous spirit, hiking in Riding Mountain National Park is your chance to step outside of your norm and into a truly magical world.
This trail is perfect for a leisurely bike ride at the end you’ll find our historic Grey Owl Cabin. Take a day out of your visit to Riding Mountain National Park to explore the wilderness that Archie Belaney (commonly known as Grey Owl) called home during his six-month stay at Beaver Lodge Lake. The cabin at the end of the trail is named after the first naturalist hired to inspire Canadians to support the creation and protection of National Parks. The trail makes for a great day hike and an even better mountain bicycle trip. When winter settles in, ski your way through the Boreal forest to the warming hut for a warm drink. Just like Grey Owl, settle in and explore the outdoors.
With the rugged and fast paced biking trail you’ll get your heart rate going! With ramps and tight turn you’ll push yourself to the limit. From the top of Reeve’s Ravine you can keep travelling up and have access to Bald Hill. Developed in partnership with the Manitoba Escarpment Trail Society, Reeve’s Ravine is ideal for mountain bikers. Connected with the rest of the East escarpment network, this flowy single-track trail allows for a remarkable escarpment experience along the ravine’s edge. Pedal away and take in some of the most spectacular views in the park! From the top of this trail you have easy access to Bald Hill. If heading to Bald Hill, we recommend leaving your bikes to the side so other hikers can pass by.
With this scenic trail you’ll find a pair of Parks Canada Red Chairs, where you can a take break. This difficult trail has a reputation of providing one of the best views in Clear Lake Country. It’s an investment in time and energy to get there safely and the rewards and views are totally worth it. Trail surfers and mountain bikers have options to start from the top and work down the escarpment from the North Escarpment trailhead or plan for an easier downhill route back by starting with the climb up first when starting from either of the two East trailheads. One of the main trails of the East escarpment network you can include this trail in a much bigger adventure involving other trails in the network. *It’s a difficult 11km return trip to the Bald Hill viewpoint and back but totally worth it!
After your adventure filled day! You deserve to splurge, enjoy a classic burger from Sportman’s Park, or the local fave “AJ’s Special” pizza!
Don’t forget about dessert! Looking to rest those legs after your long day of hiking? Enjoy a classic sundae or milk shake from The Board Walk, sit outside on the lawn chairs where you can watch our beautiful sunsets. Or walk down the pier where you can sit at the Red Chairs.
