Fish and Wildlife at Clear Lake

Fishing

For many anglers, the scenery is enough to make it the experience of a lifetime. But then they cast their line.

RMNP encompasses over 1900 lakes, 650 permanent and ephemeral streams and countless wetlands. Recreational fishing opportunities exist within all bounds of the Park. Whether it is back country fishing for northern pike, landing walleye on Clear Lake, or fly fishing for brook trout inhabiting the mountain like streams along the escarpment, Riding Mountain National Park has the experience for you.For more information on licenses and other fishing opportunities visit the Parks Canada website.

Wildlife Viewing

If you go for an early morning jog through the town of Wasagaming, don’t be too surprised if you see deer wandering down Wasagaming Drive. Elk, Moose, Lynx, and Black Bear are also plentiful.

Spot wildlife in their natural habitat! The animal inhabitants of the region include moose, bison, white-tailed deer, beaver, pine marten, mink and fisher. You can also follow the tracks of predators like lynx, fox, coyotes and wolves.  Expert guides can enhance the experience for you by describing seasonal wildlife activity taking place around you based on the tracks you see in the snow or mud. They also know where to find the best local wildlife corridors and gathering places. Learn more at Parks Canada’s website.
